Since 1975, Prairie du Sac has turned an unlikely piece of farm life into a Labor Day weekend competition. Contestants select dried cow chips and throw them for distance, with separate divisions for children, adults and teams. The throwing contest remains the event’s defining attraction.
The festival extends well beyond airborne manure. Visitors can expect the Tournament of Chips parade, arts and crafts vendors, a food court, live entertainment, children’s activities and other community events around Marion Park and nearby festival grounds. Spectators can watch the throwing competition without entering it themselves.
