About Ripley’s Ocean City

Ocean City’s Ripley’s Believe It or Not does not wait until visitors get inside to announce what kind of building it is. An enormous shark appears to have smashed through the exterior above the Boardwalk, leaving its body protruding from the structure as if the museum itself has become one of the exhibits.

Inside, the attraction continues the Ripley tradition of collecting strange artifacts, unusual art, physical anomalies, visual tricks, and things chosen primarily because they trigger an immediate double take. The Ocean City location advertises hundreds of exhibits, including genuine shrunken heads alongside interactive displays and modern curiosities.

Ripley’s attractions are commercial museums rather than historical institutions, and some displays are intentionally theatrical. That is part of the point. The company grew around Robert Ripley’s fascination with remarkable claims, unusual people, rare objects, and the visual pleasure of something that seems unbelievable even when it is sitting directly in front of you.

The Ocean City museum occupies a particularly appropriate spot on a Boardwalk already built around spectacle. Hours change through the year, so use the official attraction page for current information before visiting. Even people who never buy a ticket still encounter one of Maryland’s most direct pieces of novelty architecture: a building that appears to have lost a fight with a giant shark.
