About POPS Sixty-Six-Foot Soda Bottle

POPS takes the number 66 very seriously. The modern roadside stop sits directly on historic Route 66 and announces itself with a steel soda bottle exactly 66 feet tall.

The bottle weighs about four tons and contains roughly 4,000 LEDs. After dark, the lights cycle through changing colors up the entire structure, turning an already gigantic piece of roadside advertising into something visible for miles. Beside it, a 100-foot cantilevered canopy stretches over part of the property with almost no visual competition from the surrounding landscape.

Inside, the theme continues with more than 700 soda flavors arranged across glass walls in bands of color. The combination of diner, filling station, soda collection, and oversized illuminated bottle feels like somebody rebuilt classic Route 66 roadside spectacle with modern engineering.

POPS opened in 2007 and operates seven days a week, although restaurant and store hours can differ. Visitors should check the official website for current times. The bottle is impressive in daylight, but after sunset it becomes exactly the kind of unnecessary glowing landmark Route 66 deserves.
