About Paul Bunyan and Babe
Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox stand shoulder to shoulder on the shore of Lake Bemidji, transforming a Northwoods folk tale into a pair of concrete roadside celebrities.
Paul was unveiled in 1937 for a winter carnival, and Babe soon joined him permanently. Their bold colors, oversized proportions, and lakeside setting have made the pair one of Minnesota’s most photographed landmarks.
The statues are free to visit year-round outside the Tourist Information Center, which also displays Paul Bunyan memorabilia and the unusual Fireplace of States.
