About Mars Flying Saucer

Pennsylvania has a town named Mars, and the town has sensibly chosen not to behave normally about it.

Near the center of the borough stands a large flying saucer built from two repurposed oil tanks. The sculpture weighs close to 3,000 pounds and looks as though a low-budget spacecraft landed in a small western Pennsylvania town and was immediately incorporated into the streetscape.

The saucer has become part of a larger local identity built around the town’s unusual name. Businesses, community events, signs, and celebrations regularly lean into the space theme, but the physical spacecraft remains the most direct visual payoff.

The saucer is an outdoor downtown landmark and can be photographed from public areas. Visitors should park legally and watch local traffic rather than treating the intersection like an attraction parking lot. Mars may be millions of miles away, but Mars, Pennsylvania provides a considerably easier flying-saucer photo.
