About Marion Steam Shovel
In a field beside Gulf Road sits a colossal survivor from the age of steam-powered excavation. The Marion Model 91 shovel is a riveted metal beast with a long boom and a body about the size of a railcar. It is believed to be the only surviving example of its model.
This is a roadside viewing stop, not a climb-on exhibit. The shovel stands behind a fence near an active quarry entrance. Pull over only where safe, view it from the public road, and leave the gate and equipment undisturbed.
