About Kazoo Factory and Museum

The kazoo may be one of the simplest musical instruments ever mass produced, but Beaufort has given it an entire factory and museum.

The Kazoo Factory manufactures plastic kazoos while also preserving examples that show how the instrument has changed in shape, material, color, and marketing over the years. Display cases turn an object usually associated with novelty noise into a surprisingly deep collection.

Factory tours allow visitors to see how the pieces are molded and assembled. The experience also includes the opportunity to make a kazoo, which is appropriate because there are not many factory tours where the finished product can immediately be tested by humming loudly into it.

The facility operates on a weekday schedule with guided tour times that can change. Visitors should check the official website before arriving. The museum works because it takes an object almost nobody treats seriously and gives it exactly the amount of obsessive attention Oddity Almanac requires.
