About Grand Central Whispering Gallery
One of New York City’s strangest conversations takes place outside the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Terminal. Stand in opposite corners of the low, tiled passage and speak softly into the wall. The curved ceiling carries your voice across the busy space so clearly that the other person can hear it from afar.
The gallery is in a public part of the terminal near the lower-level dining concourse. Bring a second person to try the acoustic trick, and be considerate of travelers passing through. A guided terminal tour is available but is not required simply to visit the passage.
