About Fantastic Caverns

Fantastic Caverns offers an unusual way to explore the Ozarks underground: visitors ride through the cave in a Jeep-drawn tram. The cave was discovered in 1862, and a group of twelve women explored it in 1867, leaving a record of its early passages and formations. Tours now follow a route past flowstone, columns, and soaring chambers.

The Hall of Giants contains two especially large formations that gave early explorers a memorable landmark. Guides explain how mineral-rich water builds stalactites and stalagmites over long stretches of time, while the slow ride lets visitors take in details that would be easy to miss on foot.

The tram format makes the cavern accessible to many people who cannot manage a traditional cave walk. Tours depart regularly, though hours vary by season and the last tour leaves before closing. In 2026, general admission is $36 for adults and $18 for children ages six through twelve; younger children enter free with a parent. A light jacket is useful in the cool underground air.
