About Bisti Badlands Hoodoos
South of Farmington, the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness looks like a planet with its geology turned inside out. Erosion has left balanced rocks, mushroom-shaped hoodoos, and bands of color scattered across a wide, nearly treeless basin.
There are no marked trails to most formations, so navigation is part of the adventure. Bring offline maps, plenty of water, and sun protection. The access roads are unpaved and can become impassable after rain. The coordinates mark the main Bisti parking area, not a particular hoodoo.
