Pleiadians are alleged humanlike extraterrestrials associated with the Pleiades star cluster. Their modern prominence is closely tied to Swiss contactee Eduard "Billy" Meier, who publicly emerged in 1975 with claims of repeated meetings with visitors he initially identified with the Pleiades. Meier produced photographs, films, recordings, alleged material samples, and extensive written contact reports. One of the best-known figures in those reports was a woman called Semjase. His story became internationally known and turned Pleiadian visitors into a distinct category within later contactee literature.
The Pleiadian image overlaps strongly with the older Space Brother and Nordic alien traditions. The visitors are usually described as human or almost human rather than the highly nonhuman figures associated with later abduction stories. After Meier’s claims circulated internationally during the late 1970s, other contactees, writers, and channelers adopted the Pleiades as an extraterrestrial point of origin. As a result, "Pleiadian" eventually became much broader than Meier’s original Plejaren narrative, with different sources assigning the beings inconsistent appearances, messages, abilities, and histories.
Meier’s physical evidence has remained heavily disputed. Reference sources note longstanding accusations that some photographs involved models and that purported artifacts had ordinary explanations, while Meier and his supporters have disputed those conclusions. The astronomical Pleiades is, of course, real, but that fact does not validate claimed visitors from the cluster. The Pleiadian is a late twentieth-century alien archetype that grew from a particular contactee story and then expanded far beyond it. "Pleiadian" and Meier’s later preferred term "Plejaren" are related but not identical labels.
Evidence and claims
Meier’s public contact claims and their influence are documented. No independently verified evidence establishes that extraterrestrial visitors from the Pleiades contacted him or anyone else.
