The Sweetwater Jaycees have hosted their rattlesnake roundup since 1958, turning the second weekend of March into a gathering centered on the region’s western diamondback rattlesnakes. Live snake demonstrations are the defining attraction, accompanied by other rattlesnake-related activities and displays.
The weekend has grown into a larger community event that includes a carnival, parade, cook-off, vendors and related activities around Sweetwater. Visitors should understand that this is a traditional rattlesnake roundup rather than a wildlife-viewing festival, and live snakes are handled as part of the event program.
