Sopchoppy Worm Gruntin’ Festival

A Florida town celebrates the art of coaxing earthworms out of the ground.

Sopchoppy honors worm grunting, the unusual practice of driving a wooden stake into the ground and rubbing it to create vibrations that bring earthworms to the surface. The town turns the tradition into a spring festival with demonstrations, contests, and local entertainment.

The festival is usually held in April. Check local organizers for the current date and program.
