Point Pleasant turns its red-eyed local legend into a full-blown street party at the Mothman Festival. Cryptid fans, costumed creatures and curious travelers descend on Main Street for an annual celebration of the mysterious winged figure reportedly seen near town in the 1960s.
The oddness is the attraction: Mothman cosplay, paranormal speakers and creature-themed merchandise share the downtown streets with food vendors and live entertainment. The famous Mothman statue is a natural gathering point, while the nearby museum and separately priced tours offer deeper dives into the legend.
The festival usually takes place on the third weekend of September. General admission is free, but selected attractions charge separately. Expect crowded streets, limited parking and plenty of walking. Check the current schedule before planning a trip.
