Lake Worth Monster Bash

Fort Worth revisits its shaggy Lake Worth Monster legend with cryptozoology talks, nature activities, vendors and family Halloween programming.

The Lake Worth Monster entered local folklore after a series of unusual reports around Lake Worth and Greer Island in 1969. Descriptions varied, but the story of a large, shaggy creature became an enduring Fort Worth legend that the Nature Center now revisits through its annual Monster Bash.

The event mixes cryptid folklore with the setting of the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge. Programs have included cryptozoology presentations, guided hikes, hayrides, vendors, exhibits and family Halloween activities. Visitors pay the refuge’s normal admission charge, while admission to the Monster Bash itself is free once they are inside.
