Douglas proudly calls itself the Home of the Jackalope, the mythical jackrabbit-and-antelope hybrid popularized locally by taxidermist Douglas Herrick in the 1930s. Jackalope Days turns that strange hometown claim into a June celebration built around National Jackalope Day and community pride.
The festival spreads across Douglas with food trucks, Railroad Day, vendor fairs, a car show, pancake breakfast, low-rider dog races, live music, a street dance and other family activities. Jackalope Square serves as a central downtown hub on the busiest day, while other events take place at the railroad museum and additional community locations.
