Clute turns the mosquito into a three-day summer celebration centered on Willie Man-Chew, the festival’s oversized mosquito mascot. The stranger competitions include mosquito calling and a mosquito legs contest, giving visitors a chance to celebrate the insect normally associated with swatting and itching.
The wider festival fills Clute Municipal Park with concerts, carnival attractions, food vendors, a barbecue cook-off, children’s activities and other community entertainment. Visitors can simply attend and watch the odd contests, while carnival rides and some activities carry separate charges. The event has become one of Clute’s signature annual traditions.
