Gilroy Garlic Festival

Gilroy's revived garlic festival brings back Gourmet Alley, dramatic flame cooking, garlicky foods, entertainment and the community tradition that began in 1979.

The Gilroy Garlic Festival began in 1979 as a celebration of the crop closely associated with the city and became known for garlic-forward food and volunteer-powered cooking. Its signature Gourmet Alley showcases dishes such as garlic fries, calamari and other specialties prepared in large outdoor kitchens.

One of the most recognizable traditions is the Pyro Chefs’ dramatic flame cooking, where volunteers work over open flames while preparing festival food. Live entertainment and additional vendors round out the event. The festival has announced a full three-day return in July 2027 at the Hecker Pass Outdoor Events Center next to Gilroy Gardens.
