Blobfest

A Pennsylvania town celebrates a gelatinous movie monster by fleeing the theater where it attacked.

Phoenixville does not merely screen The Blob. It invites people to run screaming from the movie theater where the monster attacked. Blobfest celebrates the 1958 creature feature and its connection to the Colonial Theatre with a weekend of affectionate B-movie absurdity.

The signature run-out recreates the film’s panicked theater escape, turning an ordinary doorway into the scene of a wonderfully ridiculous mass performance. Screenings, costumes and a street fair extend the celebration beyond the movie house, giving fans plenty of ways to embrace the town’s gelatinous claim to fame.

Blobfest usually takes place in July. The street fair is free, while screenings, run-outs and other special events can require separate tickets. Popular sessions may sell out, so check the current program before traveling. The map pin marks the Colonial Theatre, the festival’s central landmark.
