Rougarou Fest

Houma turns Cajun werewolf folklore into a free weekend of costumes, howling, music, cultural demonstrations, food and a parade.

Rougarou Fest celebrates the rougarou, the werewolf-like figure found in folklore across the bayous of Southeast Louisiana. The event uses the legend as a doorway into regional culture, with traditional crafts, French-language programming, local music, Cajun food and demonstrations by people carrying on bayou traditions.

Visitors can also expect costume and howling contests, children’s activities, live entertainment, a comic convention and the Krewe Ga Rou parade, where boats become floats alongside puppets, witches and other costumed participants. The festival is a fundraiser for the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center and also incorporates coastal education into its programming.
