About Ninigret Park Trolls

Two giant wooden faces now watch visitors wander through Ninigret Park.

Danish artist Thomas Dambo and his team created Erik Rock and Greta Granite in 2024 using reclaimed and recycled wood. Each sculpture rises to roughly sixteen feet, but the figures do not stand together like a conventional monument. They occupy separate parts of the park and reward visitors who go looking for them.

Erik Rock sits near Little Ninigret Pond, while Greta Granite waits deeper among trees and boulders. Paths and clues turn the pair into a mild scavenger hunt, with the landscape functioning as part of the artwork rather than simply serving as a backdrop.

The trolls are free to visit in a public park, but visitors should stay on designated routes and follow current parking guidance. Their size matters, but the setting matters more. A giant wooden face is strange anywhere. Finding one quietly sitting in the Rhode Island woods is considerably better.
