About Enchanted Forest
Enchanted Forest feels less like a theme park designed by a corporation than a fantasy world that escaped from one family’s workshop.
Roger Tofte began building the attraction in the 1960s, working for seven years before the first section opened in 1971. Storybook Lane filled the wooded hillside with handmade characters, tunnels, crooked buildings, and scenes constructed one piece at a time rather than ordered from a theme-park catalog.
The property kept growing. Western scenery, an old-world village, a haunted house, rides, a comedy theater, a water-and-light show, and increasingly elaborate handmade environments spread through the trees. Several generations of the Tofte family remain involved with the park.
The forest setting is essential to the experience. Paths bend around mature trees while sculptures and structures appear between them, giving even the aging handmade sections a peculiar dreamlike quality. The park operates seasonally, so visitors should check the official calendar before traveling.
