About Salt Museum
On the shore of Onondaga Lake stands a museum dedicated to a single mineral: salt. Long before Syracuse was known for its university or basketball, the area’s brine springs and salt works made it a production center. The museum preserves tools and stories from the industry that gave Syracuse its “Salt City” nickname.
It is a small, oddly specific stop in Onondaga Lake Park. Admission is free, but the museum’s opening days can vary by season, so check the county parks schedule before heading out.
