About Andres Institute of Art

Brookline’s former ski hill has turned into a treasure hunt made of stone, steel, and imagination. More than a hundred outdoor sculptures stand along the Andres Institute of Art’s wooded trails, with works appearing around bends and between trees rather than lining a conventional gallery wall. Artists from around the world have contributed to the collection.

The surprise is as much about the setting as the objects. A hike may bring you from a quiet patch of forest to a huge abstract form, then past another piece half-hidden in the landscape. The grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk, and admission is free, though donations help care for the site. Start at the visitor center parking area on Route 13, take a trail map, and choose a route that suits your footing. Parts of the hill are steep and uneven. It is a place for anyone who likes their art with fresh air and the possibility of getting pleasantly lost for a while.
