About Big Ole
Big Ole stands 28 feet tall on the shore of Lake Agnes, holding a shield that proclaims Alexandria the birthplace of America. The boast is tied to the controversial Kensington Runestone displayed nearby.
The fiberglass Viking was created for the Minnesota pavilion at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. After returning home, he became a permanent symbol of Alexandria’s Scandinavian heritage and roadside confidence.
Big Ole is free to visit in a public park beside the Central Lakes Trail, with downtown Alexandria and the Runestone Museum close at hand.
