About Darwin Twine Ball

Darwin protects a colossal ball of baler twine rolled by Francis A. Johnson, who spent four hours a day adding to it for 29 years. The finished sphere is displayed in a glass gazebo for around-the-clock viewing.

An adjacent seasonal museum holds photographs, tools, souvenirs, and other handmade curiosities connected to Johnson. The attraction became even more famous after inspiring a Weird Al Yankovic road-trip song.

The twine ball is free to see at any hour. Museum access is seasonal, with free off-season tours available by appointment.
