About The Tridge

The Tridge is a three-way wooden footbridge at the confluence of the Chippewa and Tittabawassee rivers in downtown Midland. Instead of connecting only two banks, three separate arches meet at a central platform, allowing pedestrians to choose among downtown, Chippewassee Park, and St. Charles Park.

Completed in 1981, the bridge takes its name from a blend of tri and bridge. Each spoke stretches roughly 180 feet from the center, supported by a tall central pier and curved wooden arches. The geometry is easiest to understand from above, but walking to the middle creates its own odd moment: a normal bridge crossing suddenly becomes a three-way decision.

The Tridge is open to pedestrians and nonmotorized users, including bicycles, skateboards, and inline skates. Access is free, and nearby trails make it a natural starting point for a longer walk. Public events and concerts are often held around the bridge, while nighttime lighting gives the structure a different character after dark.
